The term "evolution" originates from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing, but the concept itself has had many different meanings as it has taken shape in the sciences and other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to evolve into a different species. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist student who coined the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that existing species evolve into different species in an orderly and predictable manner.

Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living creatures develop traits to increase their chances of surviving or producing offspring. Over time this genetic variation can result in the development of entirely new biological functions or physical traits in a population. Such a shift in gene frequency is known as natural selection and it is the main driver of evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, can't be considered to be evolution since they aren't passed down to future generations.

Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial, despite the fact that it has been proven to be valid by a multitude of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They claim that the theory should not be taught in schools. The YECs are perhaps the most well known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal, and that the universe and the life on Earth started only recently.

OECs aren't as known, but their beliefs are just as intense like those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is an untruth.

Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it requires the creation of a miracle, and the scientists who founded modern science eschewed miracles for fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary as well as special creation. They consider their views to be "theistic evolution.” This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." The theory says that God creates the original species and then allows these to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.

Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, called the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all species were created at the same time and then slowly evolved. In general, creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. This is supported by a variety of professional organizations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be incorporated into their curriculum.

When people think of creationism typically think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they would remove references to evolution in their textbooks. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. STR has won its first victory by eliminating examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx in textbooks. Its next target is to take out excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.

STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its goal, it says is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints an image of students as being negative. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the nation. A survey of undergraduates studying biology revealed that half of them didn't believe in evolution. The causes are not evident, but they could be due to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the US.

The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and an ebook. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences that has an evolutionary perspective that attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.

On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon.
